Take care of the patient and everything else will follow. This phrase has been our north star at Veta Health from the time the company was only a seed of an idea between two friends puzzling through why patients don’t play a stronger role in their clinical care.In today’s digital age, this phrase takes on a new meaning as the definition of what it means to be a patient evolves. In traditional healthcare, the patient exists only within a clinical setting. Most of us, however, spend upwards of 90% of our time outside a doctor’s office or hospital and we have grown accustomed to managing many aspects of our lives from the palms of our hands. Why should our health experiences be any different? The next step...At Veta Health, we have built a digital platform to cater to this new reality. We believe that new tools are required to empower patients to become active managers of their health and to move care beyond the four walls of a hospital or doctor’s office. We are proud to announce a strategic alliance with Boston Children’s Hospital as an important step in this journey. As part of this strategic alliance, Veta Health has uniquely acquired the license to Trivox Health, a disease management platform developed by emergency physician Dr. Eric Fleegler at Boston Children’s Hospital. By integrating Trivox Health’s pioneering capabilities and deep clinical experience with Veta Health’s robust digital capabilities, we will be able to achieve our mission of transforming care delivery at scale. Trivox Health has been deployed in 10+ clinics, more than 15 clinical areas and touched 40,000 users to date.Healthcare transformation, you say?Inspired in part by Dr. Atul Gawande’s Checklist Manifesto, which popularized the concept of protocol in the surgical setting to reduce complications and improve health outcomes, Veta Health applies protocols in the ambulatory space. For most clinicians, it’s a black box once a patient leaves their office or operating room. There is little to no insight into how the patient is doing until there is a frantic phone call (at best) or an emergency room visit. For patients leaving a clinical setting, there are few support mechanisms beyond a piece of paper and a wish of good luck.At Veta Health, we are on a mission to design the path to care transformation. What this means is creating process and protocol through condition-specific digital care pathways to support patients during the time they spend away from the hospital. It means expanding the definition of care delivery and giving clinicians the tools to manage new models of care.Three guiding principles
1. Empowered Patients & Families – Veta Health was founded on the simple notion that patients can and must become active members of their care teams, equipped with knowledge and insights about their own health. Through its mobile-first, digital care journeys, Veta Health supports patients and their care partners with simple, contextualized information about their health status. The system is responsive in real time to patient inputs and relevant to where they are in their condition-specific care protocol. With Veta Health, patients have reduced anxiety, greater knowledge, and the freedom to live better.
2. Care Teams of the Future – As the healthcare experience moves beyond the four walls of traditional healthcare settings, clinicians need new tools to manage care. With Veta Health, clinicians can view trends in relevant patient-generated health data (wearables, side effects, pain scores, etc.) and take action, even virtually if needed. They are equipped with greater context to make the most out of in-person visits and have the appropriate EHR-integrated workflow tools to manage these new data streams.
3. Transparent, Coordinated Care – Did you know that 60%+ clinicians believe patient-generated health data will reduce the burden on clinicians? With Veta Health, critical patient data is shared across the care continuum in real time, enabling timely and appropriate intervention. Individual and population-level dashboards show how patients are progressing in their care protocol(s) across ambulatory environments, and call out important indicators that impact long-term health outcomes.
