HIMSS 2018 is happening next week in Las Vegas from March 5-9. The conference brings together over 45,000 professionals from around the world to discuss education, innovation and collaboration in the fields of health information and technology.

An article written by John Nosta for Forbes, talks about the impact HIMSS 2018  has on healthcare technology. He mentions that HIMSS 2018 embodies the climate of change and is providing the opportunity for networking with global experts in the field. Check out the article here to learn more about key events and keynotes.

Veta Health is excited to be a driving force in the transformation process of healthcare IT and to participate in HIMSS 2018 events as well as showcase our work at the Connected Health Pavilion Booth #8700-36.

There’s no shortage of meetings in the health tech space. From big and bold to small and eccentric, the combination of clinical need and thirst for knowledge is driving the birth and evolution of health tech conferences. And this transformation reflects the dynamics of healthcare itself as disruption and innovation seek to remedy a system that is facing a potential crisis.

The pace of this transformation is accelerating, as tech giants and other outsiders continue placing their bets on healthcare and smaller, innovation-driven companies are seeking to claim larger roles in changing, disrupting, and owning many aspects of the industry.

HIMSS18 embodies this climate of change and is offering opportunities to learn from global experts and “roll up your sleeves” and become entrenched in technology itself.  The mission for HIMSS is to showcase innovation and to help attendees bring solutions back home to their institutions and clinical practices.

“At HIMSS, our focus is better health through information and technology. At this year’s global conference, we’ll be doing more to showcase innovations and emerging solutions critical to the transformation of health. Attendees will benefit from the same unique breadth of expertise and resources that they’ve come to expect from HIMSS, while also enjoying reimagined offerings that will help them deliver capabilities to the people they care for and support their organizations long after they’ve left Las Vegas.”

Hal Wolf, HIMSS President & CEO

HIMSS by the numbers
Certainly, HIMSS18 will be a big meeting.  And here’s a look at some data provided by HIMSS to get a sense of just how big the meeting and the numbers will be.

Attendance: 45,000—equal to the capacity of Wrigley Field during a Cubs game.

Content:  Over 22,000 stories, blogs and communications disseminated around the world.

Geography:  40 countries will be represented.

Carpet: More than 10 miles of “aisle” carpet—so bring your comfortable shoes!

Connectivity: Over 18 miles of Internet cables throughout the convention center.

Coffee: 40,000 cups and over 2,500 gallons expected to be served.

Power: 4,292 batteries, 1,391 powerstrips and countless electrons.

Technology empowering humanity

The HIMSS18 experience promises to be a bit like quenching an insatiable thirst for healthcare innovation by drinking out of a fire hose—but it’s worth the effort.  And a well-planned trip can be an essential tactic to navigating both the physical and intellectual aspects of the meeting. But there’s one other essential component to HIMSS and that’s the human side.  We all spend a good deal of time talking about patient-centricity and how humanity can be lost to technological innovation. What HIMSS offers us is the chance to engage, network, and collaborate with each other and find human solutions that are empowered by technology—not the other way around!
